Campus Multi-Faith Cooperative

What is the UF Campus Multi-faith Cooperative (CMC)?

The Campus Multi-faith Cooperative (CMC) seeks to inform students at the University of Florida about spiritual resources available to them in their college experience. Members of CMC also bring those of various faiths together in such common causes as service, joint celebration, social interaction, and mutual understanding, enabling those of differing beliefs to focus on commonalities rather than differences.

The CMC also joins hands with the U Matter We Care and the many helping resources at UF as a resource for students who may struggle with the rigors of college life. Overall, the CMC seeks to contribute to the academic, emotional, social and spiritual well-being of UF students.

A Short History of the CMC
The CMC goes back over 60 years as a network of Gainesville faith leaders serving UF and Santa Fe College. During the 1960s and ‘70s, local Protestants, Catholics and Jews cooperated in support of non-violence and social justice. From initial ecumenical activities such as a “Day of Fasting and Prayer” after the Kent State shootings in 1970, these leaders formalized a Campus Ministry Cooperative which has met regularly ever since and continues to contribute to the greater UF and Gainesville communities.

A Short History of the CMC
Today the organization has expanded from various mainstream Protestant, Catholic and Jewish organizations to include representatives of minority religious groups such as Quakers, Trinity Metropolitan Community Church, Mennonites, Hare Krishnas, Seventh-day Adventists, the LDS Church and others, with ongoing outreach to include the historically African American churches, Islamic, Ba’hai, Unitarian and other local religious communities.

Why the CMC?
It’s an Organization You Can Trust
CMC members are a network affiliated with the University of Florida who are recognized as communities who support the students’ growth and development during their time at UF.

Services Presently Offered by the CMC
The Campus Multi-Faith Cooperative sponsors a couple of semester programs each semester. These events change with each semester and are usually created in response to issues of the day.

The CMC also sponsors Gators in Recovery.
Gators in Recovery is an open co-ed faith-based (any faith tradition/practice) 12 step program for those who are college-age who are afflicted with alcohol, drug addiction or other negative dependencies. This program is for discovering hope and finding fellowship and understanding – protected by anonymity, and creating a better way of living by sharing problems and ways to overcome.

Available every Monday from 7:00-8:00pm
Meeting held at 4626 NW 8th Ave

Other Spiritual Options
While you’re at UF, we want you to find a place to become involved, develop community, and feel at home.  If you don’t see your faith or denomination listed with CMC, please let us know and we will see how to link up with them.
