SLAAM! BOOK CLUB

slAAm! (sampling literature by Asian Americans!) Book Club features fictional works by Asian American writers and artists. slAAm! Is open to all UF-affiliated current students, faculty, and staff. Participation in the book club is to attend a book club discussion, university-wide lecture from the author of the selected book, and a private reception with the author. The book club name is inspired by the Asian American Cultural Center of the University of Connecticut.

In Spring 2022, we be reading Celeste Ng’s, “Everything I Never Told You.” The book is set in 1997 Ohio; Lydia — the favorite child of Marilyn and James Lee– is dead but her family doesn’t know it yet. When her body is found in the local lake, the delicate balancing act that kept the Lee family together comes tumbling down into chaos as family members uncover each other’s secrets and shortcomings, amidst familial grief, as they try to understand one another.

Book club members who receive a copy of the book must (1) attend slAAm! Book Club first meeting either virtually or in-person to pick up the book/sign book club agreement form, (2) read the book, (3) and attend the book club’s monthly meeting discussion.
