About UMMP

UMMP is a mentoring program that matches a first-year undergraduate student with a faculty or staff mentor to assist with the student’s transition to college. This program makes a large university campus seem smaller as connections are made and mentors encourage our students to take advantage of all UF has to offer.

• University Minority Mentor Program (UMMP) began in 1986, first piloted by the College
of Liberal Arts & Sciences
• UMMP was originally designed to address the issue of retention of African American students
• By its second year, the program expanded to all 16 university colleges and became more inclusive to students from all historically underrepresented backgrounds
• In 2006, the program transitioned to the Department of Multicultural & Diversity Affairs
• In 2018, the program’s name changed to the University Multicultural Mentor Program to champion and empower the various identities of our students
