Adelante 2024 will take place August 18, 2024 - August 20, 2024.

ADELANTE is a three-day early arrival program during the summer that focuses on the successful transition of incoming UF students. Hosted by the Office of Hispanic Latinx Student Engagement, the program’s emphasis is on academic success, community building, personal and professional development, and networking with peers, faculty, staff, and alumni from across campus.

In the ADELANTE program, you will have an opportunity to learn about university resources first-hand and gain guidance and advice from faculty, alumni, current students, and career professionals. The goal of the ADELANTE program is to ensure that students thrive as soon as they enter the University of Florida.

The program is free of charge and is open to ALL UF students but is specifically geared towards first time in college Gators. In addition to program materials and lunch/snacks, we hope to present you with some great swag as a way to remember the program throughout the year! A team of outstanding peer volunteers will work with you and serve as mentors, leading small group discussions and guiding you during your time in the program. These Peer Leaders are committed to serving and helping each of you in every way possible by answering questions about the University of Florida and Gainesville, giving academic and leadership advice, and encouraging you in your first year.

Ultimately, the goal of ADELANTE is for students who complete the program to know they have a strong and supportive community at the University of Florida from the moment they step on campus. Peer Leaders

The Office of Hispanic-Latinx Student Engagement is searching for diverse, and enthusiastic Peer Leaders who are eager to support to help new to UF students transition to college. It is an amazing opportunity to welcome our incoming Gators while facilitating their academic, personal and professional growth. Peer Leaders will serve an essential role in facilitating peer to peer engagement, communicating about campus resources, leading small group discussions and sharing about their own transitions to UF. Participants from the 2023 Adelante cohort as well as previous Peer Leaders are encouraged to apply, however previous participation in the program is not required.

Peer Coordinators

The Office of Hispanic-Latinx Student Engagement is searching for diverse, and enthusiastic Peer Coordinators who are involved in all areas of campus (research, Student Government, the local community and more) and who have a desire to help first-year students of color transition from high school to college over the summer. It is an amazing opportunity to meet incoming Gators while facilitating their academic, personal and professional growth. Peer Coordinators will serve an essential role during our Preview weekend. These coordinators will supervise and mentor our Peer Leaders and aid in the training and coordination of the ADELANTE program. They will have direct contact with students as they work to prepare programs and lead small group activities and discussions. Read more about each coordinator role below!

Leadership
Lead the development and implementation of the respective Early Arrival Program (EAP) through the entire life cycle from Spring 2023 through Fall 2023.

Develop work schedules in accordance with established program timelines and best practices.
Monitor and track deliverables with the EAP Coordinator team in a timely manner.
Liaise and communicate regularly with the Program Director (PD) and Graduate Assistant (GA) in support of program delivery requirements.
Able to support the EAP in various ways as needs and opportunities arise.
Provide consistent and timely support to the EAP Coordinator team.
Foster collaboration among coordinators by providing guidance and establishing common vision.
Arrange individual meetings and bi-weekly all-coordinator meetings.

Administration
Coordinate experiences that support the multiple dimensions of the EAP.
Coordinate student registration and early move-in by working with relevant campus partners.
Coordinate student checkin-in during the Early Arrival Welcome programs in Fall and Spring.
Work collaboratively with other EAP Executive Coordinators to identify opportunities for collaboration across different programs.
Assist EAP administrators in managing evaluation processes before, during and after the EAP; provide recommendations to increase the reach and impact of the EAP.
Other duties may also be as assigned.
Candidate should ideally have participated in the respective EAP as either Peer Leader or Coordinator prior to applying.

Oversee the development of the EAP itinerary to ensure a diverse programming schedule is implemented.
Create and conduct workshops for EAP Welcome that enrich the student experience in alignment with EAP goals.
Enable Peer Leaders to contribute to the development of workshop content where necessary.
Actively support workshop speakers/presenters (campus partners and departments) in delivering learning content.
Develop monthly workshops throughout the following semester on topics/content not covered during EAP Welcome.
Other duties may also be as assigned.

Develop and execute a portfolio of social/community building events that engage students from the summer through the end of the academic year to sustain a strong relationship within the respective office

Manage the EAP participant registration
Lead the summer engagement programming of the EAP.
Lead the end of academic year reunion in April.

Lead communications with EAP students to thoroughly engage them and engage them in the program via targeted group messaging, emails and other means of communication if necessary.
Work with Multimedia Coordinator to create the communication and marketing plan for EAP students
Work with Peer Leader Engagement Coordinator to manage pairings between Peer Leaders and EAP students.
Other duties may also be necessary.

Serve as main point of contact for Peer Leaders.
Facilitate the application and interview processes of Peer Leaders.
Develop opportunities for meaningful connections between Peer Leaders.
Provide critical feedback where necessary to Peer Leaders.
Coordinate with Peer Leaders to develop activities and skits for the EAP.
Convene the Peer Leader meeting monthly.
Lead the creation of training roadmaps to equip Peer Leaders with necessary knowledge and skills, for example, how to facilitate a meaningful discussion.
Work collaboratively with other Coordinators to align Peer Leaders’ work performance with student engagement objectives.
Other duties may also be as assigned.
